Weekly Roundup: Exciting Developments in the Avalanche Ecosystem

Welcome to this week’s roundup of all the notable stories in the Avalanche ecosystem! If you're passionate about cryptocurrencies, meme coins, and NFTs—especially on the Avalanche blockchain—then you’re in the right place. Let’s dive into the current market conditions and what’s happening within our awesome and vibrant community.

This review is also available on my Youtube channel, I share regular content all about crypto currencies, NFT's, meme coins, Defi and life as a Degen, so pop on and like and subscribe if you want to keep updated.

Market Overview

As we opened the week, Bitcoin was trading at $68,752. After a slight rally, it closed the week at $67,929. It briefly touched over $69,000 last week, showcasing the current volatility. On the Avalanche front, AVAX started the week at $28.77 and closed at $25.73, after peaking at $29.06. The downtrend we’ve seen means it’s a good time for those who believe in AVAX; this could present solid entry points or opportunities for dollar-cost averaging (DCA) into your favourite projects.

Despite the overall red in the market, there are signs of recovery on shorter timeframes. However, the upcoming market movements are heavily dependent on Bitcoin’s performance. With the US elections looming and increasing tensions in the Middle East, we could be in for a volatile period, particularly for altcoins and meme coins.

Exciting Developments

This week was a bit quieter in the Avalanche ecosystem, likely due to the post-summit wind-down after the significant event in Buenos Aires. However, one major story is generating considerable excitement: the upcoming launch of Arena. Dubbed “ARENA WEEK” by many, this project is poised to be a game changer for the Avalanche community.

What to Expect from Arena

The Arena V2 is set to launch soon, with an airdrop happening today, October 28th. Here are some of the key features that will be included:

  • Arena Groups/Communities
  • Arena Memecoin Supercycle Unlocks
  • Arena App Store
  • AVAX L1 Integration: Build on Arena with no limits!
  • Arena Stages
  • Enhanced Social Logins and a Mobile App for wider onboarding

I recently caught an insightful interview with Jason Desimone, the founder of Arena, where he discussed the platform’s vision for social media. He emphasized that, unlike traditional platforms like Twitter, which is where sooooo many of us go to talk about all things crypto related, but where users must leave to then interact with the very crypto they have been talking about —the Arena will integrate crypto transactions directly within its social framework, so you can talk crypto and use crypto all on the same platform.

This innovative approach is already bringing real-world applications to the new form of social media, allowing creators from various sectors—like sports and music—to interact directly with their audiences. Jason's vision is refreshing, highlighting a shift from extractive models to value-creating ecosystems, where both users and operators can thrive.

Jason also explained how he sees the future of social media beautifully.

That currently these web2 based social media platforms worked on an extractive modelIe; they would onboard users, who would be creating the content, then these platforms would be making money off of the creators by selling data etc.

The idea of the Arena is that it will be value creative, with a shared interest between the operators and the users, harnessing the power of crypto to do this

And that creators can actually make a livelihood on the platform. I’m personally looking forwards to the social creator tools and finding out much more about what these are. As someone who is focussing on the creator/creative side of things, this is all super exciting.

I am on the arena and focussing on being much more active on there so jump on and connect with me,

Here’s my referral link in the for anyone that wants to join https://arena.social/?ref=Defi_si  and also my profile link if you want to connect https://arena.social/Defi_si

For those interested in exploring Arena further, I’ll include some useful links in the comments!

Avalanche Payment Card Launch

Another exciting announcement this week is the launch of the Avalanche Payment Card! This development represents a significant step towards mainstream adoption of cryptocurrencies. Users will be able to pay for everyday purchases using $AVAX, wrapped AVAX, $USDC, and more. The card will function anywhere Visa is accepted, featuring both physical and virtual options along with 24/7 support.

This card is designed to make crypto spending seamless and stylish, allowing users to show off their Avalanche affiliation in real life. Imagine flexing that sleek red card during your next dinner out!

Community Concerns and Opportunities

FUD ??

On to something a little more negative, that I do want to briefly touch on. There was some negative talk this week in the space and across the socials.

Now I’m not going to get involved in this, or pass any kind of judgement as I think that being open and honest and having opinions is super important and it is how we grow and get better. But I do just want to talk about, as obviously things like this can be bad for the ecosystem. The talk did seem to centre around the earlier meme coin rush programme.

Which was essentially the Avalanche foundation showing public support for meme coins and also directly investing in these based on certain criteria. Which was a unique concept and one that goes against the people and the chains that promote the opinion that meme coins or community coins as they became known are bad for the space.

So it was quite novel to see the founders and the chain themselves publicly and financially showing support for meme coins, with the Avalanche foundation directly supporting specific projects. This was always going to split projects and therefore their respective communities into 2 camps.

One one hand those that had the support and on the other hand, those that didn’t.

You will always then have the different opinions on what should be supported and what shouldn’t. Naturally those with the support are happy and those without are not.

So this seemed to have come back up again this week.

Now I do know that the people involved in the scheme have said that they knowledge that mistakes were made and that the programme could have been better. I have heard that the scheme is coming back, although I’ve not heard much recently. It was also said that the scheme would have changes based on the feedback that was received, so it will be interesting to see if this doers actually relaunch and if so what the changes are.

Overall for me it was a super positive move and yes, it could have been done better. So for me, I’m looking forward to seeing this relaunched and to see what changes are made and how much the Avalanche foundation has taken on board. I think that this could be a great way to make a really positive move and show both support for community/meme coins, that are a great way to onboard users and bring volume and liquidity to a chain, but also to show that the foundation is ready to listed and willing to change.

I have said this before and I’ll say it again, but it’s schemes like this that are with the aim of benefitting those who invest, support, build and also particularly for early stage projects are what can set avalanche apart as a chain.

There also seemed to be a few people talking negatively about other projects, which I personally find disheartening. I do think the things that can set avalanche apart as an ecosystem, as well as the tech, which we know all about, but something that new users, ones who maybe new to the space and for whom the techy side might go over their heads a bit, are the following

The community aspect on Avalanche

And

The quality of the projects launching on Avalanche.

I think that once what I call the great rotation to the red chain starts, liquidity and volume start to flow in, then there will be room for all projects. So I’d love to see a focus on individual projects, but not at the sake of others.

Keep the community vibe strong

Keep the community united

And keep building each other up.

That’s’ my thoughts and so, this is a story to keep an eye on.

Spotlight on Koroshi

Something else that caught my eye this week

We also got to find out what it was that the Koroshi team was showing Emin at the summit. I spoke in my summit review video about the Koroshi people showing Emin something which seemed to have really piqued his interest. There’s been so much hype around Koroshi recently, fuelled by their amazing Koroshi house at the summit. So, I was keen to hear more.

And now we get to find out.

They posted this video this week, showing a trailer for a new game they have launching. It’s going to be a multiplatform game we'll be releasing on PS5, Xbox and PC in 2025. It’s in partnership with Atypique studios, a French gaming studio bringing together top tier developers and artists who have previously produced titles such as Lands of Noara and Mixcity swap.

As you can see on the preview in the youtube video at the top of the page it’s featuring some serious steady NFT vibes and mixed with the Anime aesthetic it looks seriously cool…… And it’s all built on avalanche.

So stay tuned for that.

Staying on gaming, just a quick note that Off the grid is still looking strong in the top PS5 downloads

Which is awesome to see.

Conclusion

That wraps up this week’s roundup of news from the Avalanche ecosystem. I’m eager to hear your thoughts on the topics we covered! This channel is all about benefiting the Avalanche community, and your feedback helps shape future content.
